So here we are, mid-June, Dad's been off at AT for a while now, it's rained most of the weekend, and you boys are starting to get something I think people refer to as pent-up energy. It was like the opposite of what your mom had, but she knew just the fix, and so after your naps we headed to the "Art Park".
Grayson had been to the Grand Opening and was a little disappointed to find out the gourmet popsicle truck is not a permanent fixture. But popsicles were soon forgotten.
Brothers survey the maze,
and everything else.
Let's get started.
Guess where we ended up?
G. actually followed the maze to get here, so that's cool.
Definitely better than popsicles.
"You're suuure we can't climb it? That's really what the sign says?"
This piece spoke to you. Loudly. Click the video below to hear.
Gray's favorite thing here is this sculpture! Has anyone seen Jack?
If he had a billion extra dollars, Gray would buy this.
After a potty break to mom's office complete with water cooler water ("It's so good!!"), a little chocolate and a nice surprise visit with our friend Missi, one quick illicit sprint through the ONLY nasty smelly stinky muddy spot you'd been asked to avoid, and one more LAST visit to your favorite sculpture, Mama dragged you away in search of food. The cheeseburgers, bagels and donuts you'd been pretending to serve me at your sculpture restaurant were so delicious, but my tummy needed more. The car was driving us to Chipotle but somehow Grayson convinced it to take us to Panera's instead with some pretty strategic mac 'n cheese rhetoric.
Pasta had a chance to cool thanks to the mesmerizing fountain.
After dinner we hung around by your fountain and read your birthday issue of Ranger Rick, Jr. cover to cover. Now you know everything there is to know about hippopotamuses!
Mommy's hibiscus tea you've stolen from me in the background.
We were enjoying our time in civilization so much, we strolled around the shopping center for a while. Mom had seen someone walking their goats earlier but we never saw that again. You two were at least as cute as goats though, so I convinced you to pose for some pictures to send Dad.
G's got the I'm-hugging-you-but-really-I'm-strangling-you thing down.
And we 100% got our money's worth out of this apple.
Plotting, potentially. Probably.
Wish I could remember, but this was something funny.
Gray saluting, Jack eating. Pretty much sums you up at 4 & 2.
Grayson super duper politely asked for a turn with the camera, so he got one.
And here is Jack right away asking to go next. And my bruises.
Grayson took this one of Jack.
And this one.
And this one.
And this one.
Finally, it was Jack's turn. He took this single picture which I've just discovered and which I think we can all agree is pretty fantastic.
For those times your bro won't share & you kind of want to throw him away.
We left on a high note, all of us still friends which is just the way mom likes it. In the car you took turns requesting your new favorite song played over and over and over again. (What 2-yr old says, "I love that song." about OAR?) Mom had a hard time listening to it without getting teary because she misses Daddy
pause here for the chorus, dedicated to our favorite guy:
"I just wanna make you laugh
I just wanna see that smile
Babe we're only here, oh, for a little while
I just wanna hold you til we fall asleep
I want love, I want us, I want you, I want me, I want peace"
~OAR
but fortunately we got to stop it midway through the fourth time when Gray asked what does "We're only here for a little while" mean and I didn't completely think through my answer before speaking which led, logically, to his next question of how many days will he be alive. I said 40,000 and each one is a present from God to us and we'll never have this day again so that's why it's important to make it good and he said, "Check! I get it." Alrighty then.
Then we got home and all, I mean all, put on superhero costumes which is deserving of a post of its very own.
Thanks for being pretty much mostly good boys this month!
